Sigmund Hering was a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Vienna. Among his teachers were Rossbach (Trumpet) and Schrecker (Composition). In 1923, he became the first trumpet in the Cleveland Orchestra, and in 1925 accepted a similar position with the Philadelphia Orchestra under the leadership of Leopold Stodowski.
